KONKANI ULOUNNAREANCHO VOSRO

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
It was started on 17 July 1997 by combined efforts of Innocent D'Souza, J.P. Fernandes, Alfred Fernandes of Nagpur.

GOAN/KONKANI COMMUNITY IN NAGPUR (A REQUIREMENT):
The number of Konkani speaking people at Nagpur was a sizeable one in the past when most of them were employed in the Indian Railways. Nagpur being a central location for India, quite a few opted to settle down here. No seperate "Konkani Speaking People's Group" had ever existed since the beginning. Over the period of years, those who settled down at Nagpur, started losing touch with their hometown in Goa, etc. There were mixed marriages and today there are hundreds of Konkanis who have surnames like D'Souza, Fernandes, etc. but unable to speak konkani. Even in Maharashtra we realize the respect that one gets when he says that Konkani Language is his/her mother tongue. In fact the respect given is more than the respect given to ones own Marathi person. To bring about awareness in people about their belonging to the Konkani land, this Konkani Ulovnnareancho Vosro (KUO) has been established.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
KUO aims to bring Konkani speaking people together promoting Konkani language irrespective of who the person is and which region the person belongs to.

FUTURE PLANS:
To conduct programmes and events in order to keep the Konkani spirit alive and going.
